Engineering the Future: How Elsa EDC, UTRGV, and Workforce Solutions are Paving the Way for 3 Rising Engineers!

The Elsa Economic Development Corporation (EDC) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) and Workforce Solutions (WFS) as we participate in the pilot phase of their Lead Internship Initiative. This innovative program, which kicked off this Fall, offers UTRGV students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in their field of study, ultimately fostering a rich talent pipeline for businesses throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Our EDC has always believed in the power of collaboration, and this venture underscores our commitment to nurturing future leaders in the community. The Lead Internship Initiative will not only provide students with invaluable work experience but also ensure they are compensated for their contributions.

In alignment with the program’s objectives, the Elsa EDC is proud to open its doors to three dynamic civil engineering students:

  • Katey Talamente: A senior at UTRGV from Robert Vela High School in Edinburg, Texas. Katey, who’s graduating in December 2023, combines academic prowess with a keen interest in hands-on projects.
  • Leo Ramirez: Another UTRGV senior hailing from Edinburg’s Edinburg High School. Set to graduate in December 2023, Leo’s enthusiasm for civil engineering and commitment to learning align well with our program’s goals.
  • Nereli Garcia: Currently a junior at UTRGV from Edcouch-Elsa High School. With her graduation planned for May 2025, local resident Nereli brings a unique local viewpoint and a heartfelt commitment to the community’s success.

The primary goal of this partnership is to provide Katey, Leo, and Nereli with a comprehensive view of civil engineering projects from the city of Elsa and Elsa EDC’s perspective. This enriching experience will allow them to make tangible contributions to our community while also setting them up for future success in their careers.

We extend a warm welcome to our interns and are excited about the prospects this partnership holds for them and our community. We believe that with the combined efforts of the Elsa EDC, UTRGV, and WFS, we are paving the way for a brighter, more interconnected future in the Rio Grande Valley.
