Empowering Elsa: A Strategic UTRGV Partnership Kickoff During National Small Business Week

As the Executive Director of the Elsa Economic Development Corporation, I feel a profound responsibility to support and uplift our small business community. This commitment stems not only from my own experiences as an entrepreneur but also from a deep-seated belief in the vital role that small businesses play in our economy and community. It’s with this sentiment that I am thrilled to announce a significant milestone—a new partnership between Elsa EDC and UTRGV’s Office of Workforce and Economic Development.

Throughout my decade of entrepreneurial ventures, which included both triumphs and trials, I relied heavily on resources like those offered by the UTRGV Small Business Development Center. These experiences have not only shaped my career but also highlighted the isolation and challenges entrepreneurs often face. With this in mind, forging this partnership during National Small Business Week feels incredibly symbolic and impactful.

Launching on May 2nd, 2024, at our Elsa EDC office, this initiative will significantly enhance the support available to local entrepreneurs. By bringing UTRGV’s extensive resources closer to home, we are ensuring that small business owners in Elsa and the surrounding areas have better access to the programs, classes, and mentorship necessary to thrive. This partnership aims to break down the barriers entrepreneurs face and foster a supportive community where business ideas can flourish and challenges are addressed collectively.

As we gear up for this event, I can’t think of a better gift to our local entrepreneurs than the promise of support and the power of knowledge that this partnership will bring. This is not just an investment in individual businesses but in the sustainable growth and vibrancy of our entire region.

Working closely with Ron Garza, whose leadership and mentorship have been instrumental, we are proud to bring the UTRGV flag to Elsa, Texas. This marks a significant commitment to embedding lasting educational and economic benefits into the fabric of our community.

I am personally driven by a strong desire to do as much as possible for our small business sector. The support of our city council, EDC board, city manager, and staff has been unwavering in this endeavor. Their collective vision for growth and development mirrors the passion of our local business owners, who continue to inspire and drive our local economy forward.

This is more than just a partnership; it’s a commitment to ensuring that our small businesses have every opportunity to succeed. Let’s continue to support and inspire each other, building a thriving network that uplifts every member of our community.
