Bridging the Gap Between Disaster Preparedness and Small Business Growth

The Elsa Economic Development Corporation (EDC) made strides toward building a more resilient business community by hosting a successful workshop focused on disaster preparedness and the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) disaster programs. Held at the Betuzas Coffee Cafe, the event saw participation from nearly 25 local business owners from Elsa and the surrounding areas, contributing to the sense of unity and cohesion that the Elsa EDC aims to foster.

Our special guest, Susheel Kumar from the SBA’s Office of Disaster Relief & Recovery office in California, added considerable depth to the discussion. Veronica Chavez from the SBA office in Harlingen, Texas, kicked off the event with an insightful presentation. This was followed by an update from Daniel Rivera, the Elsa EDC Director, who emphasized the significance of their pulse survey program for establishing a robust business environment in Elsa.

The workshop was not just about imparting knowledge, but also about fostering interactions. The one-hour event provided ample opportunities for the participants to voice their questions, learn from each other’s experiences, and receive relevant material to help them plan better for their respective businesses.

Elsa EDC’s collaboration with resource partners from across the Rio Grande Valley reinforces our commitment to supporting entrepreneurship and boosting small business growth. This event marks an important step in our ongoing business retention and expansion efforts. By hosting such workshops, we aim to equip our business owners with the tools and resources they need to thrive, even in the face of adversity.

We consider this event a milestone in our journey towards fostering a more robust, resilient, and thriving business community. But we’re just getting started. Our aim is to ensure Elsa, Texas, becomes a beacon for entrepreneurship and small business growth. By partnering with organizations like the SBA, we’re helping to create a future where our local businesses not only survive but flourish.

The Elsa EDC would like to extend its thanks to everyone who took part in this event. Your presence and participation is what truly made this event a success.

We encourage all local business owners who did not get a chance to attend this workshop to participate in our pulse survey program. It will provide you with essential insights and ensure you are the first to know about upcoming events and resources.

Take our pulse survey today, and let’s work together to build a stronger, more resilient Elsa!
